I like very much when I am looking at modern Jews, – to imagine how they could look like if they lived 20-30 hundreds years ago, – dressed in typical oriental clothes with wonderful jewelry, which are mentioned so many times in the Scriptures.

WORSHIP | KING DAVID Danced in bronze sculpture. David’s dance – a popular Bible story

For example, look at Natan who is driving his bus. He raises his eyebrows, than thinks for a little, and starts telling his next proverb, how two Jews met at the market place and the first one told another one…oh! He is the image of the king Solomon!

You will ask me how do I know that he is like that very Solomon from the Book? And I shall reply the same way as every Jew would reply: ”How could I not know? My Grandfather told me, and my Grandfather was told about it by his Grandfather, and his Grandfather was told by his own Grandfather, who also had his Grandfather. And before him everything was written very carefully, and all the writings were kept in the Temple, which was built by that very king Solomon.” So it’s a very old family story. If you want to be sure , ask any Jew who has a surname Levy, or Levinson, or Cogan, or Coganis , or Cohen, – in any country of the world, and they will say very seriously that they are the direct descendants of Aaron, and it means that they are from the tribe of Cohens (priests) who served in the Temple in Jerusalem. How do they know it? The same way as I do know about Solomon. Everyone of them had his Grandfather. And it’s a Jewish tradition to tell the stories about their ancestors, to learn about them very attentively, and to keep what was written about them. Because of that we have the Jewish Scriptures – the Bible now. That way I was revealing my relatives to myself while studying the TANACH.

MOSES WITH THE TWO TABLES OF THE TESTIMONY

Moshe 2The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone, with the law and commands I have written for their instruction.”

When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the Lord settled on the Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the Lord called to Moses within the cloud. To the Israelites the glory of the Lord looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain. Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.  The year 1799 according to the Jewish calendar.

Levite blowing Shofar

Levite 1“The sons of Aaron, the priests, are to blow the trumpets. This is to be a lasting ordinance for you and the generations to come.

When you go into battle in your own land against an enemy who is oppressing you, sound a blast on the trumpets. Then you will be remembered by the Lord your God and rescued from your enemies. Also at your time of rejoicing your appointed feasts and the New Moon festivals you are to sound the trumpets over your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, and they will be a memorial for you before your God. I am the Lord your God.” (Numbers ch.10, v.8-10.)

Amos the Prophet. Shepherd Lis Tening to God

Amos 6The most popular image of the Bible is a shepherd. For us as beleivers shepherd means a man who has an intent eye, and what is the most important the one who is able to hear and to listen. The same way as God had called an ordinary shepherd to serve Him, today He calls to serve Him everyone who is ready to listen and obey His will. The year 2957 according to the Jewish calendar.

Moses looking at the Burning Bush

Moshe & 8There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”

Then he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob”. At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God. (Exodus. 35-6). The year 2267 according to the Jewish calendar (1495 BC).
